A great book I read this month…
I have been waiting a couple of months to talk about this book. It is one of the best books I have read in several years.
The book is entitled ‘Remnant Population’ and it is written by Elizabeth Moon. I have read many books by Elizabeth Moon. I really enjoyed her ‘Trading in Danger’ series and her ‘Sheepfarmer’s Daughter’ series was exceptional. This book was published in 1996 or 1997 and I had seen it but had never taken the opportunity to read it. I finally took that opportunity a month ago and kicked myself for not reading this book sooner.
The protagonist is an old woman who decides she does not want to leave a colony when the rest of the company employee immigrants are told they need to leave for another planet. She has raised her family there and doesn’t want to start over. She believes she is too old and has nothing left to give. She wants to stay in the comfort of her old home, alone, and live out the remaining years of her life.
Then she finds out that in all of the years they had lived on the planet, a race of aliens had been hiding from them and she must deal with them now that she is alone.
This is such a great story about a great character and how she would react and grow as things happened to her and around her.
I loved this book and will read it again whenever I have the time.
If you get the opportunity to read this book do it. It is worth it.
